After having cribbed for the better part of the last decade for a decent Rajni movie, the movie Gods have finally answered. The ‘Jailer 2’ movie directed by Nelson, is a heady mix of a good storyline, fantastic screenplay and is an absolutely ‘Swaggy Mass’ of Rajnism.
Spoilers ahead.
Highlights
- SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun da, Suraj Venjaramoodu have all justified their characters playing antagonists. For them to all replace Varman (Vinayakan) of the first part tells you the how good the antagonist was in the first movie.
- All the supporting actors starting from Yogi Babu, Bjorn Surrao and a host of other characters have given their best. A special mention to Namo Narayana (Moorthy Anna) and his legendary chess scene with Suraj’s character, which quite steals the show. It is a long accumulated credit for Namo Narayana, whose comic timings is spot on from his ‘Nadodigal’ days.
- Anirudh’s music adds strength to the movie. However, it is his BGM that elevates an already hyped up Rajni mass sequence even further. Wishing Anirudh all the very best for a happy married life.
- No words can truly describe a feeling of having watched a Rajni cinematic experience. He is truly a superstar giving his all at the age of 75. Waiting for more such experiences.
- But the icing on the cake is our one and only Nelson. The dark humor in every frame along with a seamless transition to action-based sequences towards the later part of the movie are quite a delight to watch. His promo video with Ani for this movie was quite hilarious and spoofy as well.
With many of our theatre experiences leaving us quite disappointed, our Musketeers movie group (Mathi, Surendar and I) have finally watched a good movie to close out this year.
After nearly two decades, Thalaivar has given us a movie to root for. Eagerly waiting for a Jailer 3 combo of Superstar, Nelson and Anirudh.
